Mark Matheson has paid tribute to Elite League and Play off champions Cardiff Devils and dropped a hint he might be back at Sheffield Steelers next season to challenge them for silverware.
Speaking after the end of a season which ended without a trophy, the club's player of the year said he and his
family had enjoyed their debut season.
He said Cardiff: "play a good game.
"They have a game plan and stick with it, every guy buys in. They are a good team, I give them credit."
Matheson accepts there is a sense of hurt after Steelers failed to match them.
"You can tell right away it's a proud organisation, (Steelers) and they are here to win.
"We failed to win anything, it is just one of those things we've got to try and improve next year."
The former Chicago and Milwaukee AHL defenceman has played in Europe since 2013 and said of his time in South Yorkshire: "It has been a good year, we have enjoyed Sheffield."
He is reflecting on the past season and said of Sheffield: "The family is happy, it is all good, nothing but
positive things here."
