Worksop Rugby Club Under 13s travelled to Ilkeston feeling a little apprehensive after their last meeting against a well prepared side.
Ilkeston came out thinking there was an easy victory to be had, but soon realised that Worksop had other ideas.
Just before half-time Ilkeston broke through to score a try, but this did not deter a young Worksop team as Jamie Hooley scored one of his own.
Just before the half-time whistle Ilkeston scored again.
At the beginning of the second half Worksop came out strong with Nathan Langley running in a try from the half wayline, converted by Jack Hands.
Langley ended up with a hat-trick for Worksop, but an undeterred Ilkeston team hit back to beat Worksop by 12 points.
A club spokesman praised the Worksop youngsters: “For a team that’s only been together for 12 weeks, the quality of the rugby and professionalism of the team is outstanding.”
Man of the Match went to Hooley and Langley.
On Sunday they travel to Mansfield.
