A chilled and blustery York played host to the Andy Moore Autocentres Racing Team last weekend, with just Worksop’s Andy Bishop and team-mate Jono Dexter in action.
Several of the team’s riders were away on training duties in Lanzarote, leaving Dexter and Bishop to battle for a top 10 finish.
It was never going to be straightforward for the duo, on an afternoon of fierce crosswinds and decidedly chilly temperatures.
A well attended event produced a lively start to the racing, and the early pace proved a little too strong for some as the field strung out towards the rear of the main peloton, and several riders found themselves off the back of the group with only a few laps gone.
The race soon settled down to a more consistent tempo, and after a pair of riders attempted to break away from the main bunch, Dexter attacked in an attempt to pull back
After driving hard to try and close the gap, he settled back into the field, a tactical choice to conserve energy for later in the race, a decision which would prove to be decisive.
Team-mate Bishop did well to exercise some control and assist Dexter whenever necessary, putting in the work to support his team mate.
As the race neared the final stage, the pace increased, and on a high speed last lap, Dexter unleashed his trademark sprint and pulled clear of the charging peloton to
cross the line in a solid fourth place.
Team Manager Andy Moore was satisfied with the outcome: “The team were aiming for a top 10 today, and Jono delivered it decisively.”
“Andy Bishop was doubtful for today, he had the signs of a cold, but was adamant he was fit and did a sterling job.”
