Stuart Spencer of Notts AC will be aiming for a hat-trick of successive wins when the larger-than-ever Worksop Halloween Half Marathon and Fun Run takes place this Sunday over a slightly altered course.
Attracting almost 2,000 entries last year, entries for this year’s race, organised by Worksop Harriers Athletic Club, are now closed and numbers are up to a fantastic 3,000 with only Fun Run entries now to be taken on the day.
Also known as ‘The Scenic One’, the race was established in 1982 and the course runs largely through Clumber Park, which provides beautiful scenery and is perfect for spectators to support their family and friends.
New start and finish this year is at the Outwood Academy Portland (postcode S80 2SF) with the Half Marathon starting at 10am and the Fun Run away at 10.15am.
Race secretary Tony Jenks said: “The start car will be down there from about 9am and there will be lots of us in fancy dress.
“We have closed it at 3,000 entries this year, we’ve had a really good year and it’s gone absolutely bonkers.
“And we are getting a higher proportion of people who are not club runners who just like the idea of taking part. So it is really growing.
“That’s another reason why we’ve moved up to the Portland Academy as it can take a lot more people. It’s going to be a great atmosphere this year.
“We are raising funds for local charities – Bluebell Woods, CP Sport and Autism East Midlands as well as raising funds for the club to help develop youngsters.
“The public are welcome at the start/finish and all around the course. It has been voted in the top 10 in the country for most scenic half marathon.”
All race numbers and timing chips are to be collected on the day. Collection desks will be open from 8am at Outwood Academy Portland.
The deadline for deferrals has now passed so if you are no longer able to take part organisers can offer number transfers only.
Transfers can either be done on the day or by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
There will be changing facilities and toilets located at Outwoood Academy Portland and also be additional outdoor toilets provided.
There will also be a secure baggage facility outside there, run by Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in conjunction with Wilkinsons.
There is no parking at Outwood Academy Portland. Please use the designated car parks only and do not park in the neighbouring streets.
There will be three drinks stations and one sponge station located throughout the course and drinks will also be provided at the finish.
Prizegiving will take place at 1pm. This will be at the side of the Academy near the canteen area.
If you have any queries, contact entries secretary Amy Fendley at email@example.com.

Stuart Spencer will again be the man to beat. Having won in 2014, he claimed another victory last year in a time of one hour, 10 minutes and 18 seconds. Nicola Gleadall was fastest woman.
All finishers of the half marathon receive a technical t-shirt, a medal and a goody bag while all finishers of the Fun Run are presented with a commemorative medal.
