Worksop archer Robert Gray took gold from the British University Championships last weekend at Birmingham.

The teenager won the men’s individual event at Birmingham University after qualifying for the head to head series in first place, then winning all his head to head matches.

But he did it the hard way in the final, finding himself 2-0 down.

Gray levelled at 2-2 with three straight 10s, and then went 5-3 ahead.

The former Outwood Academy Portland student, who is sponsored by local fitness firm Lync Performance, shot a perfect set of three 10’s, leaving his opponent no chance of drawing level.

His qualifying score of 594 is a new Nottinghamshire County and University League record.

Gray is a SportAid supported athlete through the Nottingham Building Society.
