Dinnington Rugby Club progressed to the second round of the Yorkshire Cup as they overcame Driffield.
The 17-7 victory, at Lodge Lane, sealed a visit to Cleckheaton in November in the next round.
Dinnington had gone through pre-season unbeaten and carried this form into the early exchanges.
With 10 minutes on the clock they took the ball on in the forwards before moving it along the backs to put Duell Trueman over in the corner.
The majority of the first half was played in midfield with chances at a premium but it was an error by Driffield that led to the next score.
The visitors were approaching the home 22 when they spilled the ball and Dinnington reacted quickly, shipping the ball wide to Awly Trueman who ran in from 60 yards. Jonny West converted.
Again the game reverted to a midfield battle but Dinnington missed a glorious chance to extend their lead when a forward pass prevented a certain score.
The second half started with both sides cancelling each other out although Dinnington had to work the hardest as they defended against the slope.
Sixteen minutes into the half, Dinnington seemed to have sealed victory when their forwards rumbled forward and drove Garry Woodcock over.
However, they then lost the ball at the restart and Driffield crossed in the corner.
The visitors were unable to build on their good fortune and the game once again became a midfield wrestling match with clear-cut chances few and far between.
Dinnington had chances but didn’t add to their lead.
On Saturday Dinnington welcome Westoe at 3pm in the league opener.
