DTH Redlands Roosters retained their Worksop League Division One title without lifting a bat.
Worksop Miners’ Welfare A were the only team that could catch the Roosters, who had no fixture.
But Welfare A were unable to field their strongest side against Manton Nomads and it cost them dearly.
Top player Richard Element won his three singles matches, beating Chris Cattell, Sarah Short and Ian Henderson, but that was where the scoring ended for the Welfare side as the Nomads trio all beat the Welfare’s other two players — Mick Bell and Stuart Element.
Cattell and Short also won the doubles against Richard Element and Bell to seal a 7-3 victory, ending Welfare A’s slim hopes of catching the Roosters.
Roosters have 31 points from 12 matches, with DTH Fluffy Toys still second on 25 points.
They have, however, played one more match than the miners’ welfare side. who are level on points.
The bottom end of the division got more complicated as two of the bottom three sides — Stanley Street A and Sparken Hill Starlings — met.
The two were level on points, although the Street side had a better sets difference .
Stanley Street could only field two players as Alex Millward had to pull out at the last minute, which meant the best they could achieve was a 5-5 draw, even if they won all seven games — which they did!
Both Peter Eyre and Jack Kirkland beat Andy Lee, Ivan Guilliatt and Helmuth Osborne and then won the doubles against Osborne and Guilliatt.
The result means the two sides remain level on nine points with the Street side still having a better sets difference.
Starlings have a match in hand.
Bottom of the table are Manton Misfits with four points from 11 matches.
Elsewhere in the top division, Manton Nomads are fourth with 20 points from 13 matches and DTH Redlands Monsters fifth with 14 points from 12 matches.
This week DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys were due to face Worksop Miners’ Welfare A; Manton Misfits were playing Stanley Street A; and Sparken Hill Starlings were against DTH Redlands Monsters.
