Road Runners in four counties on a busy athletics weekend

Clowne Road Runners had a busy weekend, with athletes wearing the club colours in Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Lancashire and Lincolnshire.

Over 4,000 runners took part in the Derby 10km race, starting from Pride Park.

And there were four Clowne Road Runners in the field.

First home for the local outfit was Adrian Kirkham, who finished in 43.57.

He was followed across the line by Samatha Coleclough in 51.10, which was a personal best time, Suzanne Leusby in 54.24 and Angela Kirkham in 1.00.10.

The Tickhill five-mile Gala Run took place on Sunday with three Clowne Road Runners taking part.

First home was Danny Keeling 39.45, followed by John Proffitt 45.04 and Dave Keeling 50.04.

The popular 5km Parkruns which have many venues throughout the UK and are free to anyone wishing to improve their wellbeing, take place on Saturdays at 9am.

The Rother Valley 5km Park Run saw Dennis Learad record a time of 22.23, followed by club-mates Katy Taylor 24.55 and John Proffitt 25.24.

The Lincoln 10km race attracted over 4,000 runners with top athletes from across the UK taking part.

Clowne’s Dan Page came home in a creditable 12th position with a recorded chip time of 34.29, while John Edwinashmore finished in 43.51.

The Sheffield Half Marathon saw new member Peter Twigg record a time of 1.26.46, although the race will be remembered for a controversial cancellation due to a lack of water – Twigg and thousands of others running regardless.

Helen Callender in the Manchester Marathon ran a time of 4.25.13.
