It was a productive weekend for Harworth racer Dean Hipwell at Brands Hatch.
The CDH Team rider picked up 13 championship points with an eighth and an 11th place finish in the sixth round of the British Supersport Championship.
Saturday morning’s qualifying session saw Hipwell put the CDH Racing Triumph in 12th on the grid for the afternoon’s sprint race.
Hipwell made a good start in the race passing Joe Collier’s Triumph on the first lap to move up into 11th.
Lap two saw him up into 10th and he maintained this position for the next four laps.
Danny Webb in sixth place crashed on lap six putting Hipwell in ninth spot and then on lap nine Jake Dixon crashed out of fifth, allowing Hipwell to take eighth, where he stayed until he took the chequered flag to earn eight championship points.
His fastest lap of the race would see him again start from 12th on the grid for Sunday afternoon’s feature race.
Hipwell got off to another good start on Sunday afternoon, overtaking the Triumph of Bjorn Estment on the first lap and Marshall Neill on the third lap.
Now leading a group of four riders covered by less than a second, he hung onto 10th position until the ninth lap when Estment got back passed him.
Hipwell overtook Estment again on lap 13, ending the battle, as his rival crashed out on the penultimate lap.
But in a thrilling climax, a sprint for the finishing line saw Collier edge out Hipwell, who finished in 11th place, three tenths of a second separating the pair.
These two results see Hipwell maintain his 12th place in the championship standings.
The CDH Racing Team were happy with the weekend’s work, especially seeing as they did not suffer any mechanical problems as they had done in the previous two rounds.
