IceSheffield is sometimes disparagingly referred to as Sheffield Arena’s “en suite” by Steelers management.

But Ben O’Connor is looking forward to playing at the rink tonight, as the side host his former employers Edinburgh Capitals. “We won eight games in a row there last year, we never lost so it served us very well” he said. “If we play the way we can do there the rink will be very good for us.”

Coach Paul Thompson is also happy to play at the smaller venue.

“IceSheffield is the same ice pad size-wise” he said. “We don’t want to change the way we play and we won’t - our aim is to win and to entertain our fans.”

O’Connor has a soft spot for the visiting Edinburgh, where he played for two seasons.

“I love Edinburgh. I am good friends with Scott Neil and have a lot of friends up there still.

“They have got a special place in my heart.

“Edinburgh has a dangerous team. They have very skilled players individually, when I was there we had some upsets and beat the big teams so we have got to be on our

toes. We can’t take them lightly.”

Thompson expects an unusual looking Capitals side this evening. He said: “They are a different team, they are a Canadian team this year.

“Where they have been a Slovakian style European team, in the past, I think they play a little more of a gritty game.”
