WORKSOP golfer Lee Westwood has been given an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
The 38-year-old has received the honour after the best year of his career, in which he became world number one and helped Europe to a Ryder Cup win in Wales.
Worksop Golf Club product Westwood is in action in Memphis this weekend, at the St Jude Classic – a tournament he won this time last year.
After two rounds Westwood is eight shots off the lead, shooting a level par 70 in yesterday’s second round.
The event is a warm up for next week’s major, the US Open, where Westwood will play alongside world number one Luke Donald for the first two rounds.
