The Worksop Harriers ladies have been winning medals again, this time in the Nottinghamshire County Fell Running Championships.

Jo Mclean (58:24, V35) and Sally Staveley (1:10:35, V50) both won silver madals in their respective age categories.

The championships were held at the Wolfs Pit Fell Race, which at almost sixmiles and 1,500 ft of ascent is a short category ‘A’ race which packs a punchy 600ft climb almost from the off.

The climb is on well cropped grass and is runnable, for the strong, which then takes the runners onto the open moor for some single track and open moorland running.

There is then a final ‘sting in the tail’ ascent that leads the runners back to the head of the original climb, where strength permitting, they can extend their legs for a final race down to the finish field.

The race gets its name from a feature high on the Shatton Moor.

The other Harriers competing finished as follows:Dave Wass (118th, 51:41), Aaron Jackson (201st, 56:48), Paul Hurst (212th, 57:32), John Bradshaw (260th, 58:12).

The Harriers also had two runners in the very much flatter Lincoln 10km.

Colin Laughton finished in 232nd place thanks to his time of 41:11, while clubmate Jimmy Kelly took 843rd position when he crossed the line in 49:02.
