Ladies beat Monarchs to earn a promotion

Worksop Ladies Hockey Club’s second team beat West Bridgford Monarchs III 6-1 in the final game of the season to earn promotion to the Notts Premier.

Goals came from captain Annabelle Wilson (2), Alex Palmer and Amanda Young (3).

Young was awarded player of the match for her confident performance and hat-trick.

This makes it back to back promotions for the second team.

There was disappointment for the thirds however.

They needed to win their last game of the season to gain promotion into Notts Division Two.

Confidence was high as Worksop had previously beaten, bottom of the league, Beeston VII 5-1.

However despite a great performance, the thirds could not break down Beeston to push on for the win and were frustrated by a 1-1 draw.

Worksop’s goal came from Sam Badger and Mia Green was awarded Player of the Match.

All hope for promotion now rests on the final game of the division to be played on Saturday.

Beeston VI play South Nottingham II and a win for Beeston will take them above Worksop and into the promotion position.

The Worksop first team played Southwell Brincliffe United in their final game of the season.

A win would ensure they finished second in the division.

Worksop suffered defeat earlier in the season when they played away at Southwell, therefore had a point to prove for the return fixture.

Playmaker Ailsa Gray scored within the first fiveminutes, but the game was very tight with goal scoring opportunities for both teams.

Worksop’s second goal, scored by Esther Gray, late in the first half, settled the nerves and gave Worksop the confidence to push on.

Joanne Bochenski had a fantastic game in midfield and was awarded Player of the Match for her efforts.
