Worksop & District AA still need more youngsters to for their elite Junior Squad.

This is a unique opportunity for local youngsters to receive some of the best coaching in the country.

The Worksop based club has a long and very successful history with its previous juniors qualifying for Fish-a-Mania and winning the Angling Trust Nationals eight times in a row.

Anyone from ages 14 to 17 with a little fishing experience are welcome.

Worksop Angling Supplies: open seven days, 6am to 5pm, Sundays and Bank Holidays 6am to 10am.

Retford Angling Centre: open five days 7.30am to 5.30pm, including Bank Holidays, closed Wednesdays and Sundays.


Mick Hall fended off 60 of the area’s top matchmen to take victory during Friday’s Open on Hallcroft’s Moat Pool.

Mick bagged over two ton of carp to take the biggest match weight of the week by far.

Glen Greasley took Hallcroft by storm this week, winning the Tuesday evening match with a remarkable 113lb, followed by second place in Friday’s evening match with over 146lb.

Sam Kelk had a great week on Sherwood Forrest’s Holmedale Lake winning Wednesday’s Open with over a ton of carp before going on to secure third place during Sunday’s Open with a commendable 91lb haul.

Sherwood Forest Fisheries: Tue Open, Sherwood Lake: 1st M Burrell, Gateford Angling Centre, peg 41, 46-7-0. Pole caster was the winning method for Mick, landing a mixed bag of Ide, Skimmers and Carp to 3lb. 2nd D Round, Woodhouse Angling, peg 45, 44-7-0; 3rd J Urruty, Alfreton Angling, peg 38, 44-5-0.

Wed Open, Holmedale Lake: 1st S Kelk, peg 39, 113-8-0. Sam fished pole pellet at 14m and pole paste at 6m to catch constantly, landing Carp to 7lb, beating off the 22-strong field and also drew the golden peg for a bonus cash prize. 2nd K Powers, peg 9, 97-15-0; 3rd R Allen, peg 45, 97-0-0.

Sun Open, Holmedale Lake: 1st C Greensides, Matrix Dynamite, peg 41, 123-4-0. Chris took on 30 of the areas top anglers, fishing shallow pole pellet at 13m to bag 36 Carp to 6lb. 2nd A Lakey, Worksop Angling Supplies, peg 20, 94-8-0; 3rd S Kelk, peg 43, 91-12-0..

Worksop & District AA: AGM to be held at 7.15pm on Thursday 1st May at Manton Sports and Athletics Club.

Open matches on Sandhill Lake have been suspended while construction work is being carried out at the venue.

Matches will resume from Thursday 22nd May.

Day tickets and season permits for the Chesterfield Canal stretches are now available from Retford Angling Centre.

Stanley Street Social Club: Next match will be held on Sunday 20th April at Lodge Farm’s Field Pond, draw 9am.

Toft Newton Reservoir: 131 rods caught 574 trout, giving a rod average of 4.38.

Mixed weather and mixed catches but this didn’t stop top game angler Mr Richardson from netting a huge near 13lb Rainbow.

Nymphs, Dries and Lures all doing well. Fry patterns worth a go in the margins amongst feeding Brownies.

For best results keep mobile, moving every 20 minutes on the bank or fish on the drift if going afloat.
