Sheffield Steelers and Great Britain forward Robert Dowd has been rushed admitted to hospital with abdominal pains, during a Great Britain tournament in Croatia.
Dowd reported feeling unwell yesterday and was taken to hospital by the GB medical staff for precautionary tests on suspected appendicitis.
He will miss today’s game with Lithuania, the third in the series.
The hope is that the illness was a less-serious stomach infection.
GB doctor, Matt Robbins, said: “Robert is in good spirits and we are keeping a close eye on him.
“We are expecting him out of hospital shortly.
“We would like to thank the Croatia medical staff for their help and assistance in this matter.”
Dowd has scored two goals in two matches at the World Championship (Division 1B) tournament in Zagreb, including Monday’s overtime winner against Estonia.
He has been one of the stellar skaters of the tournament.
Sheffield management are keeping a close eye on his situation.
