Hardy saves UFC career with KO win

NOTTS mixed martial artist Dan Hardy saved his career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship with a spectacular win in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The welterweight delighted the MGM Grand Garden Arena with a left hook knockout of veteran Duane Ludwig, in round one of their fight.

Hardy broke a four-fight losing streak after just 3:51 in the opening stanza, weathering some early pressure from the American kickboxing specialist and then landing a sweet lead left hook.

Although he celebrated for a split second, Hardy remained focused to finish the fight on the mat with a couple of heavy elbows.

Speaking in the Octagon in his post-win interview the Nottingham man said: “It’s good to be back.”

The fashion of the victory impressed his UFC bosses sufficiently to land him a $70,000 Fight of the Night bonus.

Hardy may well be in line to fight in his home town in September, when UFC are likely to hold an event at the NIC on 29th of the month.

UFC president Dana White said: “Dan will probably be on that card.”
