Four medal haul for Harriers at Nottinghamshire Cross Country Championships

The Worksop Harriers returned from the Nottinghamshire Cross Country Championships with an impressive haul of four medals.

Youngster Freya Dolby led the charge, finishing second in the Under 11 girls race in a time of 5:52.

That was good enough to earn an individual silver, and help the Harriers to team silver alongside Mia Swindell (10th, 6:48) and Olivia Hare (11th, 6:49).

Teegan Page (12th, 6:51) narrowly missed out on finishing as part of the team of three.

Teresa McPake (13th, 28:13), Sarah Worley (21st, 29:22) and Amy Fendley (25th, 30:10) won bronze for the club in the senior ladies team event.

And the evergreen Peter Fendley, club chairman, (91st, 2nd V60, 38:55) won a individual silver medal in the over 60s category.

Other successes included Erin Lonsdale (7th, under 13 girls, 11:50), James Londale (7th, under 17 boys, 18:33) and Freya Dolby all being selected to represent Notts in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships.


Under 13 girls: Lucy Forrest (24th, 14:16), Laura Betts (26th, 14:44).

Under 15 girls: Charlotte Oakes (14th, 14:24).

Under 11 boys: Jake Charters (33rd, 6:31), Jo Cutts (34th, 6:32) and Henry Dickinson (41st, 6:59).

Under 13 boys: Caius Tweed (22nd, 14:10).

Under 15 boys: Ryan White (13th, 16:15), Nathan Langley (14th, 16:30).

Under 17 boys: George Earle (11th, 20:55).

Senior and veteran men: John Hewitt (51st, 4th V50, 34:46), Rob Roper (76th, 36:39), Colin Laughton (88th, 38:32), David Havenhand (106th, 41:18).

A busy weekend of running also saw the start of the local Cross Country league, with the first of five races held over a two lap course at Handsworth.

The frozen ground meant the going was lacking the usual amount of mud, but nevertheless the 33 Harriers who turned out enjoyed the friendly competition, team spirit and buffet that followed.
