Dinnington II paid the price for honouring their fixture against Doncaster Phoenix as the were trounded 78-7.
The side were hit by a Christmas illness, which left them without several regular starters and needing to borrow players from the home side to even up the numbers.
The ‘bad idea’ became apparent as early as the second minute as Phoenix ran in the opening try and Dinnington stayed on the back foot for the rest of the half reaching the break 48-0 behind.
Injuries then reduced Dinnington to 14 men at the start of the second half and a request to the home side to reduce their numbers to keep the game competitive was declined.
Not surprisingly, the home side continued their dominance and ran tries in almost at will. One bright spot for Dinnington came mid-way through the half when Jack Sigsworth forced his way over for a try and Jay Differ added the extras.
