Clowne Road Runners enjoyed the perfect cross country conditions to start their 2015 race programme – at a wet, cold and muddy Wollaton Park in Nottingham.
The local athletics club was well represented in the Nottinghamshire AAA Cross Country Championships, and enjoyed considerable success.
Gareth Lowe and John Profitt were the star performers in the men’s race with the former taking a County Gold in the Men’s 40 category while the latter took County Gold in the over 70 category.
Not to be out done by the men Jackie Robson took a County Bronze in her age category whilst Louise Lowe finished 11th in the senior ladies race, collecting a reserve letter for the county team.
The annual inter-club cross country competition, consists of five local running clubs; Clowne RR, Retford AC, Worksop Harriers, Killamarsh Kestrals and Handsworth Road Hogs.
Staging the first event was Handsworth and over 200 runners took part.
Clowne’s Darren King finished second, with the club also taking second place in the men’s competition and third in the ladies, putting the Road Runners into second overall.
The next race will be staged by Worksop Harriers at Manton Wood.
Any local runner not affiliated to a running club who would like to run the rest of the series can join Clowne Road Runners as a second claim member.
The cost is £5, and more information on second claim membership can be found at www.clowneroadrunners.org
