Clowne Road Runners shine at Rotherham 50 mile trail race

Clowne Road Runners turned out some impressive performances at the 33rd Rowbotham’s Round Rotherham 50 mile trail race.

The international trail event follows an undulating route with, overall, 800m of climb through the South Yorkshire forest and participants can walk or run the full 50 miles or enter as a relay team.

Four of Clowne’s more adventurous members completed the 50 mile route as individual entrants.

Simon Gregory finished in 21st position in an impressive time of 8:04:46, followed by Richard Hind in 39th position in 9:15:35.

It was a memorable day for finisher Helen Worsfold, who completed her first 50 mile ultra-distance event in 11:52:04 followed by David Keeling in 15:19:48.

A successful day was had by the clubs’ four relay teams, which saw 32 club members taking part, each running a leg of between 5km and 17.5km.

The men’s team retained their title of overall winners for the fourth year in a row, completing the course in 5:23:09.

The Red Rockets just missed out on winning the mixed team category coming a close second in 6:05:12 followed by the Red Robins in 7:11:56 and the Red Devils in 7:35:13.

Elsewhere Sarah-Jane Massingham shaved a massive 44 minutes off her previous PB at The Milton Park Abingdon Marathon.

Starting at the Tilsley athletics track, Oxfordshire’s premier marathon makes its’ way through the town centre before heading out on a two lap route through the villages of Drayton, Milton and Sutton Courtenay returning to Tilsley Park for a finishing lap of the track. An ecstatic Sarah-Jane completed the course in 3:45:23 (PB and Bronze club standard).
