Long awaited sunshine greeted local cycle star Andy Bishop and his Andy Moore Autocentres Racing team-mates at York Sport Village on Saturday.

Bishop, 35, and his pair of team-mates were involved in the senior mens race on Saturday afternoon, as a competitive battle ensued.

The York closed circuit’s high level of grip increased the speed on a warm, dry day and Bishop, Jono Dexter and Tom Sutton were all in the mix throughout the race.

With over halfway gone, it was very nearly catastrophe for the front group of riders when a clipped wheel in the peloton almost brought down the whole pack.

Fortunately the crash resulted in no serious injuries other than some very expensive broken carbon fibre.

The incident occurred right in front of Dexter, who responded by taking to the grass and missing the almighty pile up !

Bishop continued his good form with a strong performance, putting in a show of power to finish second in the intermediate sprint.

TeammanagerAndy Moore was relieved to see his team avoid the drama: “I’m pleased that the guys had their wits about them and avoided the nasty pile up, and relieved that no one suffered any serious injuries.”

This week the Andy Moore Autocentres team celebrated a sponsorship deal with JE James Cycles , which will see the major cycle retailer provide the very latest racing Giant Advanced Race bikes for the team riders.
