Bassetlaw Triathlon Club kicked off the 2015 competitive season in style, at the first race of the Midlands Sprint Triathlon Series at Southwell.
Ten club members were in action in a field of over 550 starters, for the 400m pool swim, 17.6km bike and 5km run sections.
Many of the competing triathletes have had a hard winter preparing for the season and the club coaches were very optimistic about the potential results.
When the results came in, they were certainly not let down, with two club members in the top 20, six top 20 age group places, three sub 18-minute 5k runs and personal bests galore.
Thomas Shaw and Matt Horsfield’s progress under coaches Stephen Chambers and Cat Harrison has been incredible over the last year and they finished the race with only 15 seconds between them.
Both finished in the top 20, with fifth and sixth position respectively in the Male 25 to 29 age group.
Coach Chambers had squeezed his own training in, pushing the younger club members all the way.
He finished just three minutes behind, with fifth place in the M45 to 49 age category.
Gavin Toulson, Piers Grumett, Daniel Hadfield were also outstanding with just over a minute separating them.
The club are always looking for new members both experienced and novices.
