The Worksop Harriers enjoyed some excellent results at the second race in the local cross country league, held over a 6.3 mile course at Killamarsh.
The icy conditions made it trecherous in places, but otherwise it was a lovely, sunny day for a run.
Amy Ogden made a welcome and exceptional return from injury to win the ladies race and lead a strong ladies team to victory, with six finishers in the top 11 places.
Meanwhile a number of other ladies enjoyed their first taste of cross country with increasing numbers joining from the Sisters On Sunday’s ladies only running group.
The Harriers ladies are doing so well that they outnumbered the Harriers mens team for the first time.
A Harriers spokesperson put this growth down to the great team spirit and said: “They really support and encourage each other and this league offers friendly competition suitable for all abilities.”
“They keep going from strength to strength.”
The club’s mens team was led home by 16-year-old James Lonsdale, making his senior debut in fine style finishing an excellent sixth place.
This bodes well for the club with more young athletes narrowing the gap between junior and senior competitions and they can only get faster and faster.
The next race in the league is the Harriers home race – a challenging run around Maton Pit Wood on Sunday 1st February.
