The event, at Sherwood Pines Forest Park will be held on 21st July, and comprises of 10k and 5k races, and two free to enter family runs, of 1k and 2k.

Organiser Charmain Heaton, from Retford Athletic Club, said the races were perfect for families to enjoy.

“Sherwood Pines is a beautiful location for the event which has become a really popular family and club day out.”

“The races are run on a gently undulating forest and family park course, away from all the traffic, which is part of the reason the event attracts so many runners each year from the local area and others from across Notts, Yorkshire, Lincs and further afield.”

Many of the runners use the event to raise cash for good causes, and this year organisers have teamed up with Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

It is hoped that each entrant into the 1k and 2k fun runs will make a small donation to the charity.

Emma Vizor, fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice explained how the race would benefit their work.

“We are really proud to have been chosen as the partner charity.”

“As we receive no statutory government funding the money raised will help us to continue to provide our services to local children with a shortened life expectancy.”

Entrants running on behalf of Bluebell Wood are asked to let the organisers know if they would like to receive a sponsorship pack including a free Bluebell Wood running vest.
