Local riders take to the podium in race double

Retford Wheeler Dominic Smith finished on the podium in Scunthorpe Poly’s Tuesday circuit at Blyton Park last week.

The local rider came home in third place.

On Saturday, Paul Bexon, Carl Briggs and Keith Dumbleton joined up with teams from Nottingham and Derby for track training at Manchester Velodrome under the watchful eye of coach Graeme Waters.

Bexon and Briggs both having never ridden on a banked track before, acquitted themselves admirably.

Only eight riders turned out for last week’s Retford and District Wheelers club run to Navenby.

Taking a route through Dunham, Swinderby and Bassingham the destination was reached in good time due to the assistance of a strong following wind.

The return journey was to be a much more arduous ride, the wind now blowing much stronger and complimented with heavy rain showers but the riders worked well together, sharing the pace making to good effect.

This Sunday’s club run will be a short ride around the South Yorkshire area before finishing up at Tickhill to support club members Jane Roberts and Steve Hilbert who are competing in the road races promoted by the Tickhill Velo.

Meet in Retford market square at 9am.
