Local golfers Westwood, Wilson and Willett pay tribute to '˜The King' Arnold Palmer


One of golf’s all time legends has passed away at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The 87-year-old won more than 90 tournaments including seven major titles.

Hide AdAnd the fondness with which he was held by golfers today has been evidenced by the outpouring of emotion on social media today.
Worksop’s Lee Westwood, Lindrick resident Danny Willett and Mansfield’s Oliver Wilson all tweeted tributes.
Wilson said: “RIP Arnold Palmer...Terrible news to wake up to this morning. It was an honour to have met you.”
Willett added: “DW RIP Arnie!! Sad day for golfers and fans all around the world!! A true legend of the game.”
Palmer’s death comes on the eve of the 41st Ryder Cup at Hazeltine, where the European and US teams will undoubtedly pay further tribute this week.
