Local firms back ice hockey stars

SHEFFIELD Steelers have inked sponsorship deals with two Worksop businesses.

Opticians Specsavers and Worksop Waste Services Ltd both joined forces with the Elite League ice hockey side, who play at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.

Club owner Tony Smith hopes the Steelers’ fanbase is extending from the city of Sheffield to the surrounding areas.

He said:” We like to think that the appeal of the Steelers isn’t just in Sheffield but in all the areas close by.”

“Our supporters come from many locations and we have always been strong in the Worksop area and even have a branch of our supporters club there”

While Specsavers are a long term sponsor of the Steelers, Worksop Waste are backing them for the first time.

General manager Richard Morris said he had heard good things about the ice hockey outfit.

“We have several companies we work closely with that have had great experiences being supported by the club.”

“We are looking to promote our brand and see the Steelers as a great way of expanding our awareness.”
