Local cycle team celebrate rider’s promotion to category one

The Staveley based outfit are maintaining their summer form, and had reason to celebrate on Saturday at RAF Dishforth.

The third round of the competitive Prologue Circuit series saw rising talent Adam Turner needing only a few points to secure promotion to prestigious Category 1 status.

Using the first of the day’s senior races as a warm up, Andy Bishop, Xavier Scott, and Joel Candy were joined by team manager Andy Moore on a breezy 3.5 mile circuit.

Despite numerous attacks, the peloton came together for the final run in to the finish, and a strong push from Bishop, with Candy in close formation, brought on the bunch sprint, with Scott snatching fifth position, and Candy ninth.

In the following Elite race, the team created the opportunity for Turner to break immediately from the main group and settle into an early breakaway of five riders.

With his team-mates managing the main bunch, Turner was able to work with the break and open up a useful gap which he would hold throughout the race.

Only needing a top 10 finish to secure promotion, there was no pressure on Turner to perform, but the local rider turned on the power in the sprint and secured yet another podium finish, with a fine third place spot.

There was further celebration for the team with Bishop storming in with a fierce final attack to comfortably win the bunch sprint and take sixth.

Scott secured eighth place and Candy rode in 11th, generating a substantial points haul for the day.

Team manager Moore was delighted with the team display.

He said: “The lads rode their hearts out today to get the job done, and it’s a massive achievement to have secured promotion for Adam this season.

“To score 52 points in one afternoon’s racing proves the consistency of the team.

“It’s been a day of celebration, and a fantastic reward for the hard work the lads have put in this year.”

He lauded the team’s backers, JE James, for providing reliability in the form of their race bikes: “I would like to thank JE James for sharing our passion and powering the team to success this year with the incredible Giant TCR’s, they’ve been astonishing machines.”

The team now head north in the coming weeks, with events at York and Lancaster on the cards, as they look for more celebrations.
