Lions hope to roar into final

DINNINGTON Under 15s are hoping to roar into the final of the Yorkshire Cup when they host West Park Leeds on 4th March.

The ‘Lions’ side reached the final four with a comprehensive 39-0 thrashing of Bridlington.

And coach Pete Trueman is hoping his lads can go one step further in their quest for cup glory.

He explained how the Under 15s made it this far, after a successful season.

“With the development and steady growth we’ve had since the beginning of the season, I’ve had some quiet confidence that we might progress in the cup.”

“We had a bye in an early round, which helped our cause, and then we were drawn with Bridlington who we had never played before.”

“We never let them have the ball and shut them out completely and now we’re in the semi-final, buoyed by that performance.”

Trueman says the squad’s confidence is up, but admits the semi-final opponents will provide a stiff test.

“The England squad were training at West Park before they went up to Scotland at the weekend, it’s a big club,” he said.

“We’ve played them twice before and we haven’t been at our best, but we’re looking forward to this one.”

“They’re a good side, arguably the best team in Yorkshire at the moment, but we’ve drawn a home fixture at Lodge Lane and the confidence we got from the Bridlington win is still there, if not enhanced.”

The Under 15s set-up at Dinnington includes two full teams, a ‘first team’ known as the Lions and a development side dubbed the Tigers.

Their coach is proud of the achievement of getting so close to the Yorkshire final, having been with them for a decade.

He added: “I started in 2002 so this is my 10th year. I’ve come up through the age groups with them, like many coaches do.”
