Lee Westwood will play with fellow Lindrick member Danny Willett in Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship

Lee Westwood has been grouped with ISM stablemate Danny Willett, and Branden Grace, for the first round at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Worksop’s Westwood has come close to winning the tournament in the past, finishing in a share of second place in 2008.

Both Westwood and Willett were part of the victorious European team who won the Eurasia Cup last week in Kuala Lumpur.

Playing at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, Darren Clarke’s Team Europe beat Team Asia 18½ to 5½.

Westwood and Chris Wood beat Aphibarnrat and Chawrasia 2&1 on the first day.

Paired with Sheffield’s Matt Fitzpatrick, Westwood secured another point for Europe on Saturday.

He said: “We played well, made a bogey on the first and gave them one, but after that we were six under and finished on 14, we didn’t hit too many bad shots.

“A lot of fairways, a lot of greens and made putts when we needed to and just always felt in control once we came back from the first hole.”

Westwood was the seventh man to go out in the singles, and beat Nicholas Fung 7&6 to help his team to a comprehensive victory.
