Ladybird cyclists take to hills and lakes

March has proven a big month for the Ladybird Cycle Club with continued increase in numbers, peaking at 11 riders.

the team have also increased their Tuesday mileage from their traditional Morton to Wildsworth route pushing 22 miles with the dawn of BST from Morton to Kexby through Springthorpe and back home.

The highlight event came on 24th March when the Ladybirds, representing Gainsborough, swapped the Lincolnshire flats for the Cumbrian climbs by entering two teams in the Hellrunner Cumbrian Commotion held at Grizedale Forest.

The adventure challenge consisted of a seven-mile run, 15-mile cycling and 1,500m canoe across Lake Coniston, taking in some of the most fantastic scenery of lakes and some of the most challenging running, climbs, bogs and off-road routes known.

Team Ladybrid 1 consisting of Martin Ward, John Farrow and Steve Tait finished in 139th place out of 250 teams with a time of 3 hours 42 minutes, while Ladybird Team 2 consisting of Chris Gale, Sheila Bayne and George Lazenby came in an impressive 96th with a astonishing time of 3-28.

The Ladybirds will be seeking new challenges throughout the year. Their daily cycle goes out every Tuesday from the corner of Nelson Street and Love Lane and riders must have lights and helmets.

Their most sincere condolences go out to the Trent Valley Cycle Club and their recent loss.
