Geena Watkinson,10, started driving when she was eight, after enjoying the children’s ‘Amen Corner’ track at Center Parcs.

Dad Steve told the Guardian her love affair with the sport flourished from that moment.

“Geena could do nothing but talk about it all the way home and all the following week, begging me to take her back again,” he said.

The youngster’s persistent nagging led her dad to find Tattershal Kart Centre near Horncastle in Lincolnshire.

Soon the Watkinsons were buying a kart for Geena, and not long after that she began racing.

Steve said: “She had her own kart at the beginning of June and started racing in August.”

“She was over the moon when after her third race meeting she was awarded a novice trophy, which spurred her on even more.”

Christmas 2012 brought a new kart, and in February 2013 she took on her first full season in the Honda Cadet Class.

An upgrade to her kart’s chassis and practice in all weathers helped her to sixth place in the Class.

One new engine and a new chassis later, she’s ready for her second season.

Steve added: “Geena is all geared up for the new season – in the first race she finished third, only five seconds adrift of the winner.”
