Juniors start the season in style

Dinnington’s Under 12s made a great start to the new rugby season, beating hosts Doncaster 14-0 in the opening fixture.

The match was played over four 15-minute quarters, and the kick-off saw some rusty play from both sides.

However the team soon gelled together and put in a great defence, keeping Doncaster from the try line.

Dinnington fought back with Michael Perrozi breaking through Doncaster’s line and scoring the first try of the game.

Alex Rimmington converted with a straight kick over the post, bringing the score for the first quarter to 7-0.

The second quarter began with new players on the pitch and Dinnington were determined to increase their lead.

Oliver Fallon scored the second try following good ball distribution and a strong run through their defence.

Harry Brown kicked the second conversion for a 14-0 lead.

Dinnington had their eye on the try line again and got close but lost the chance as Doncaster cleared.

The only time Doncaster broke through and made a run for the line, Dinnington responded with speed and solid tackles.

In the last quarter Dinnington again put in a great defence and played their own game.

The Man of the Match was Dominic Moyle who kept calm and put himself in the right place for some solid tackles and rucks.

The club’s Under 11s were also in action at Doncaster, as nine of the squad made their competitive debuts.

Wearing new shirts thanks to sponsors Construction Marine Ltd, they got underway in perfect conditions.

In game one they lost out 12-0, as Doncaster made a lively start and scored twice.

Game two also went the way of the hosts, by a 40-7 scoreline.

Dinnington gave new players a full game, and there was some great tackling by Curtis Craven and James Davies.

James Sanderson went over for a deserved try, and James Blackburn converted.

Man of the Match awards went to Josh Drake and Charlotte Mosley, with commendations going to Davies and Sanderson.
