Juniors set for British Championships challenge

Bassetlaw junior orienteers are preparing for the British Schools Score Orienteering Championships that will be taking place on Saturday 12th October, at Druridge Bay Country Park, in Northumberland. Six local schools will be represented, the largest number of school that has ever been to a British Schools event. Competitors have 45 minutes to visit as many control sites as possible and then get to the finish.

Each control is worth 10 points but five points are deducted for every minute late to the finish.

Last weekend Ben Beresford and Will Parkinson competed for the East Midlands Juniors in the annual Junior Inter Regional Championships, in the New Forest.

Both did well and helped the East Midlands to a seventh place finish from the 12 regions of the UK.

This weekend will see local orienteers competing in the East Midlands Urban League event, at Stamford.

The urban environment is sure to provide tricky navigation and fast running.
