Junior members excel at Blidworth

SEVENTEEN orienteers from Bassetlaw were in action at Blidworth Woods in the East Midlands League, with the juniors in particular achieving good results.

Five of the youngsters finished in their respective event’s top 10.

Yellow Course: Jodie Wright 7th, Emma Wright 10th, Tom Cooley 13th.

Orange Course: Eleanor Cooley 3rd, Fraser Ridgway 10th, Cameron Ridgway 16th.

Light Green Course: Alexander Ridgway 5th.

Green Course: Helen Parkinson 35th, Phil Emery 43rd, Oanah Ridgeway 58th, Jess Beresford 68th.

Blue Course: Will Parkinson 11th, Paul Beresfors 27th, Robert Parkinson 39th, Graeme Huggan 40th, Andrew Ridgway 47th.

Brown Course: Ben Beresford 48th.

A presentation was held before the event at Blidworth to award the trophies for last year’s East Midlands League.

Congratulations to four Bassetlaw juniors who won were among the prize winners.

Boys’ White Course: Tom Cooley 2nd.

Boys’ Yellow Course: Fraser Ridgeway 3rd.

Girls’ Yellow Course: Eleanor Cooley 2nd.

Boys’ Orange Course: Alexander Ridgway 3rd.

The village of Sudbrook, near Lincoln, provided the venue for last weekend’s racing.

The best performance of the weekend came from Robert Parkinson, who came fifth on the Long Course.

After a Wednesday without training, the weekly sessions will resume this week.

The orienteers will be meeting between 6.30pm and 8pm at the CCF classroom at Worksop College.

Next weekend sees the Notts Winter League continue on Saturday morning, at Clifton Campus, in Nottingham, while on Sunday there is a regional event at Big Moor that will involve navigating on the gritstone edges of Derbs.
