Javelin star Ward is throwing herself into Olympic dream

THE London 2012 Olympics have inspired one local athlete to double her efforts in order to represent her country at Rio in four years.

Javelin star Tesni Ward is entering her third year at Hallam University, studying biomedical science.

But she won’t be taking a backward step in her bid to reach the very top in athletics.

She told the Guardian: “London inspired me to work even harder towards Rio.”

“I’m determined more than ever to get to a competition on that level, after seeing the support the public gave our athletes, even those who otherwise might not have watched sport.”

“It brought the country together in a way you wouldn’t think possible.”

While funding and sponsorship is hard to come by for many young athletes, the former Valley student is determined to succeed despite the financial restraints.

“I’ve gone and got myself a job at a sports shop to help fund my athletics, and increased my training to twice a day, six days a week.”

“It’s going to be difficult with my final year of university, also having to deal with an increase in training and juggling a part-time job, but I’m going to do whatever it takes to get there.”
