Javelin star Tesni out for the season

WORKSOP javelin star Tesni Ward has had to write off the 2012 season after suffering an injury.

The former Worksop Harrier hurt her arm in a warm up throw at Loughborough in May.

She told the Guardian: “I suffered a grade two strain of my ulnar collateral ligament (elbow) and a bit of a tear in my forearm.”

“It was a blow after a long string of injuries but after the initial upset I decided to take it as an opportunity to catch up on all that I’ve missed in winter and to work really hard to get into the best shape of my life and prepare myself for when I can throw again.”

Although disappointed to miss out on competitive athletics, the Sheffield Hallam student, 20, insists the timing of the injury could have been worse.

The UK’s fifth ranked javelin thrower said: “If I was going to get injured it was best to do it this year, when there are no age group higher level competitions available for me.”

“The next four years are important, so I may as well get all the injuries out of the way now.”

“I’m working hard on rehab to get better, and going all over the country to get treatment and help to speed up the process.”

“I’m looking onwards and upwards to 2013.”
