Horse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’ — Tuesday November 13

As the countdown begins to the big meeting at Cheltenham this weekend, here is the latest selection from our resident tipster:

Tuesday November 13

SOFTSONG

Huntington 2.10 WIN

To all intents and purposes, this novice hurdle is a two-horse duel between the selection and Valdez. The latter is regarded as one of the best young prospects in the powerful yard of Alan King, but I marginally prefer Philip Hobbs’s four-year-old recruit from France. Both horses showed bags of promise on their seasonal debuts last month, but the Cheltenham contest in which the gelded son of Singspiel finished fifth was easily the strongest of the two. I was there that day and he caught the eye as a lovely, tall, athletic and scopy sort. He sweated up beforehand and was too keen during the race itself, yet still held every chance until the final flight. The form has already been franked, with the horse who finished just behind him winning easily last week, and providing Hobbs’s charge settles better today, he could take some beating. He was a useful type on the Flat in France and is likely to appreciate the soft ground more than his main rival.
