Hipwell squeezes home in Cheshire

DEAN Hipwell squeezed home in 15th place at the latest round of the British Supersport Championship in Cheshire.

The Harworth rider and the CDH Racing Team were at Oulton Park, starting on Friday in the two free practice sessions.

Hipwell was 12th quickest of 31 riders ahead of Saturday morning’s qualifying, but a late decision to replace the rear tyre cost him the chance to put in a couple of quick laps and he started the qualifying race in the afternoon in 18th.

A good start saw him pick up four places in two laps and on the last lap he brought the Globalnet Telecoms Yamaha across the line in 11th.

His fastest time saw him start from 20th in Sunday’s race, in warm and sunny conditions, and by the seventh lap he was up into 15th with a three 10ths of a second advantage.

The remaining eight laps saw him battle to keep his place and he crossed the line just eight 100ths of a second ahead of a rival.

Hipwell’s next outing is at Brand’s Hatch later this month.
