Hill finishes the season in style

Kiveton motorcycle ace Josh Hill finished his Thundersport GB Championship season on a high, with a podium finish at Donington Park.

The teenager battled his way to third place in the last race of the year, capping his maiden year on a 600c motorcycle in style.

A delighted Hill said: “I’m over the moon, I’ve been so close to the podium all year and to finally arrive onto the box in the last race of the season is amazing.”

The podium place lifted Hill into fifth place overall in the championship, out of 52 point-scoring riders.

Starting the weekend well, he went two seconds quicker than last year’s pole position lap time, in Friday’s practice sessions, before finishing qualifying in fourth.

He crossed the line in the weekend’s second race in fourth position, after a frenetic battle with Freddie Sheene – son of the legendary Barry Sheene – and Donald Gilbert.

Sunday’s main event races, televised on Motors TV, didn’t begin well as Hill had his worst result since the first round of the season, coming home in 14th.

But he put that behind him in the day’s second race, beating Gilbert for the third place on the podium.
