Harworth’s Dean Hipwell competes at Brands Hatch in British Supersport Championships

Harworth’s Dean Hipwell competed at Brands Hatch in the first round of the British Supersport Championships on the short Indy circuit last weekend.

He has changed from Yamaha after four years to the 675 Triumph triple this season. Friday’s free practice sessions were basically used to achieve the testing and set up the Globalnet Triumph.

Hipwell was not happy with the setup of the suspension and was reluctant to push too hard.

Saturday morning’s qualifying session didn’t go well for the Harworth rider only managing to put the Globalnet Triumph in 23rd position on the grid for the afternoon’s qualifying race.

Prior to the afternoon’s race the CDH team worked on the suspension in an attempt to improve the handling for the afternoon race.

Hipwell got off to a good start in the race moving up into 18th by the end of the first lap and this was the position in which he took the chequered flag.

Starting from 21st on the grid for Sunday afternoon’s main race of the weekend, Hipwell got off to a disastrous start as during the warm up lap one of the handlebars was loose forcing him to pull into the pits to have it rectified.

This meant he would now have to start the race from the pit lane, resulting in him being in 27th and last place at the end of the first lap.

By the end of the sixth lap he had managed to claw his way back up into 24th spot, eventually crossing the finish line in 19th place.
