It was dubbed a ‘must-win game’ due to the defeat just 24 hours earlier and Worksop were in determined mood to get that all-important victory, starting strongly from the off.

Worksop created chances in the final third and, after three good opportunities were squandered, Ailsa Gray won the ball at the top of the D and struck the ball high into the net for a deserved lead.

Wellingborough had little possession in midfield due to excellent work from the Worksop defence and the home side created yet more chances going forward. It wasn’t long before they got a second.

Gray doubled her’s and the team’s tally to give Worksop some cushion at the break.

The hosts maintained the pressure on the Wellingborough defence, winning a bucket load of short corners. They forced the opposition keeper to make plenty of saves but couldn’t seem to score a third.

With ten minutes left to play, Worksop won another short corner which man of the match Gray hit into the back of the net to seal a third goal and the three points.

Worksop face Beeston away next weekend and will be looking to keep momentum going into the crucial last four games of the season in their fight to avoid relegation.
