The event, to be held on 21st July at Worksop Golf Club, will feature the prestigious scratch and stableford trophies and a host of prizes from sponsors PING.

Westwood appealed for youngsters to get involved.

He said: “You can take your first step towards the stars by entering this year’s Lee Westwood Junior Championship.”

“Help make this year’s event the best ever and enjoy all the fun, excitement and competition.”

The Worksop Guardian backed event has always proved popular with junior golfers in the local region and further afield.

Sports editor Graham Smyth echoed Westwood’s calls.

He said: “Lee Westwood has always said he’s a firm believer in giving juniors the chance to play competitive golf from a young age, and it obviously breeds success.”

“It’s always very satisfying to see former junior championship winners’ names popping up in senior results a few years later.”

“Not only is it a great title to have on your golfing CV, but the day itself is a good experience for juniors, on a cracking local golf course.”

“The Lee Westwood Junior Championship is one of the highlights of the year for the Guardian and I’d encourage all local clubs to ensure their junior members all sign up.”

Worksop Golf Club’s secretary manager Alan Mansbridge added: “It’s one of our most prestigious events for the juniors, they all look forward to it and so do we.”

The Lee Westwood Junior Championship will take place at Worksop Golf Club once again this year.
