Meachen is 2015 Retford golf champion

After a gruelling 36 holes, played in the rain, James Meachen was crowned Retford Golf Club Champion for 2015.

Meachen shot a very impressive 73 on the first round and 75 on the second.

The title was closely contested by C. Rafferty whose first round of 74, just one more shot than James, proved costly.

His total of 149 made him runner up.

In third place was Chris Naylor who shot 72 and 79, Martin Buzzeo with 77 and 75 took fourth and in fifth place was club captain Neil Martindale with 77 and 76.

The Senior Gents at Retford GC held their early summer open on Thursday 18th June in the form of a better ball Stableford with both scores to count on the par threes.

The winning score of 54 points was recorded by Mr M. Holdsworth and Mr R. Murdy from Louth GC.

In second place with 50 points on a better back nine were Mr K. Turner and Mr B. Porters from Elsham GC.

Home holfers Mr D. Jordan and Mr P. Brookes took third with 50 points.

Nearest the pin on the 11th hole was Mr N Goodwin from Oakmire Park GC.

The Retford members and visitors would liked to thank the green staff from the presentation and excellent condition of the course.

Nine ladies got up at the crack of dawn on an overcast morning and turned up to play in the annual midsummer madness competition.

Tee off was 6.30am and the competion format was individual stableford.

The winner with a score of 33 points was Kaisa Gill.

In second place was lady captain Angie Dyer with 32 points and Karen Pollard was third with 31 points.

The trophy, a pottery cockerel was presented to Gill together with her prize.

On Tuesday 16th June the Kayser Cup for ladies with a handicap of 24 or less was won by Debbie Rose with a tremendous net score of 68 (gross 83).

In second place was Anne Jordan with net 73 (gross 93) and in third place Pat Ticehurst with net 74 (gross 96).

The Johnson Cup given to the best score of a lady with a handicap of more than 24 was won by Kaisa Gill with a net score of 79 (gross 108).

Retford’s juniors will be sporting smart new shirts, thanks to a sponsorship deal with RMS group.
