Lee starts Open under gaze of new coach

Lee Westwood begins his Open Championship challenge today (Thursday) at Muirfield alongside Sergio Garcia and Charl Schwartzel.

And the Scottish course will provide the setting for the Worksop golfer’s first major outing under the watchful eye of new coach Sean Foley.

The Canadian guru, who works with Tiger Woods and recent major title winner Justin Rose, has helped Westwood rediscover the long game he felt was ‘out of synch’.

“The idea of linking up with Sean was to get back to swinging the way I used to.”

“I finished with Pete Cowen last August and after so long without a coach I felt I was getting a bit out of synch.”

“So, a couple of weeks ago we had a five-hour session that went really well.

“We spent most of the time working on my posture and my position at address and I feel like I’m hitting the ball a lot better.”
