Good week on the greens for Brown

IT’S been another good week in professional golf for Worksop’s Ryan Brown.

A match play victory at world famous Wentworth on Thursday was followed by third place in a three-day EuroPro Tour event at Burhill Golf Club.

Brown beat one of Wentworth’s PGA professionals at the final hole in the third round of the TPTour’s match place championship.

And he followed that by capturing £2,100 from a top three finish on Sunday at Burhill, thanks to a two under par total of 214.

Ironically, it was a Wentworth professional who won the EuroPro title, but Brown was delighted with his week.

He told the Guardian: “It was pretty close at Wentworth, I was never down in the match and was one up going down the 18th, and I won that hole to go through.”

“I played really well, although he kept getting up and down and made it close.”

“But I enjoyed the weekend more, finishing third in a strong field.”

Brown had to overcome some inclement weather in both events, and a poor start at Burhill.

He said: “At Wentworth it was pretty horrific and on the first day at Burhill it was blowing a gale.”

“The speed of the greens shocked me a little on Friday, I started at the 10th and three putted from eight feet for a double bogey.”

“But I played well and putted quite nicely after that.”

The Worksop Golf Club product is giving himself a week off to recover and practise, before another hectic week of Jamega Tour and EuroPro Tour action.

And then he’ll be playing a little closer to home in the Open Championship qualifying event.

He explained: “The Open qualifier is on 25th June at Lindrick.”

“Just under 10 per cent of the field go through, so if you play well you’re in with a chance.”

“It can be difficult when it’s just over one round, but I know the course – it’s just on my doorstep – and I’m looking forward to it.”
