Gemma is the first lady

Bassetlaw Triathlon Club secretary and Clowne Road Runner Gemma Scougal was the first lady home in her first competitive road cycling race.

The event, at NEwark Showgrounds, was held on a closed traffic-free circuit, and formed part of the Pedal Pusher Series.

Top cyclists from around the country took part in the 20-mile race, and Scougal was an impressive sixth overall.

She had just returned from a week’s training camp in mountains near Benidorm, and has been cycling for three years.

She said: “Cross training is always good to include in your running programme.”

Cycling is a great way for runners to cross-train without putting extra impact on their bodies.”

Clowne Road Runner Emma Mackie’s children, Rhys and Alice, supported the Clowne London Marathon runners Cancer Charity fund by completing various chores at home.

Their efforts enabled them to hand over a cheque for £15 for the charity.
