Games hitting the target

THE Bassetlaw Games campaign continues to hit the target, of introducing the district’s residents to sport.

On Saturday clay target shooting became the most recent sport delivered by the Games initiative, led by the council’s sports development team and backed by the Worksop Guardian.

Former Team GB shooter Lee Campion, who competed in the World and European Championships and took silver in the 2007 Youth Olympics, was on hand to give expert advice and test shooters on their new skills.

Despite the poor weather the day proved popular and Campion was kept busy throughout with participants ranging from the experienced to complete novices.

Tony Wright, the council’s sports development team leader, sang the praises of the former Great Britain representative.

He said: “To have someone of Lee’s experience, quality and enthusiasm on hand in this district dedicating two full days of his time to help people have a go a clay shooting is so rewarding to see.”

Bassetlaw can be really proud of the quality of the sporting opportunities that are being delivered to the people of Bassetlaw as part of The Bassetlaw Games.”

The shooters were tested with 15 clays from various angles and speeds, with the following results: Andrea Borrowdale 9, Peter Borrowdale 11, Ryan Roets 10, Katie White 12, Stuart Horne 10, Carole Duckworth 10, Jeremy Duckworth 12, Henry Roberts 9, Felicity Roberts 10, Debbie Morris 9.

The shooting continues with a second day this Saturday.
