Youngsters ease into next round

A YOUNG Worksop Town side eased into the next round of the Sheffield Senior Cup with a 2-0 win over South Kirkby Colliery on Wednesday.

The majority of the first team were given the night off, 24 hours after beating Belper Town, and the side who kicked off at Sandy Lane contained seven Under 19 prospects.

First teamers Jan Zolna, Steve Gardner, Michael Jacklin and Gary King featured in the starting XI, and it was debutant King who grabbed both goals.

The former Stamford striker was brought down by the visiting keeper with four minutes remaining in the first half before dusting himself down and converting the resulting spot-kick.

His second goal didn’t arrive until the final minute of the match as he slotted past the advancing keeper to secure victory.

Worksop Town: Zolna, Gardner, Alali, Hutchinson, Taylor, Jacklin, Matthewman, Wilson, King, Archer, Lowder. Subs: Shiels, Hudson, McDonald, Jackson, Jepson.
