A team of Worksop youngsters put up a brave fight in the final of a cup competition, against a side who had beaten them comprehensively twice before.
Worksop Town Under 9 Tigers travelled to Millmoor Juniors FC to take on Wath Stars.
The young Tigers had faced Wath Stars twice before this season, and lost 6-0 and 7-1, so were understandably nervous.
Those nerves were evident as Wath took the lead inside the first five minutes.
But to their credit Worksop hit back to level on the 10 minute mark, thanks to a James Hamilton thunderbolt.
A brilliant free-kick put the Stars back in front, before some tired Worksop legs allowed Wath to make it 3-1 at the break.
In the second half Worksop Town came out attacking, playing passing football, but got caught on the counter attack and found themselves 4-1 down.
In the last 10 minutes Tigers more than matched their opponents and on 35 minutes a great through ball from Charley Carroll put Ashton Cooper in to score.
Manager Peter Askew spoke of his pride at their achievement in reaching the finalY: “The lads all had a great day out and I’m sure there’s more to come.”
The team included Myles Vickers, Joseph Lawrence, James Hamilton, Oleigh Scott, Kai Grainger, James Taylor, Ashton Cooper, Joshua Millington, Josh Saville, Charley Carroll and Harley Gill.
